Perdido shop ready for tourists | pnj.com | Pensacola News Journal
“The high summer beach season is almost here, and that means you’ll need all the paraphernalia to rock on the beach.
Along Perdido Key, finding a good beach and souvenir shop was a challenge, but this year beachgoers visiting Perdido’s snow- white beaches can stock up on all the beach stuff they need at Beach Planet, across from Sea Watch condominium in the heart of Perdido Key.
It’s owner Ilan Dahan’s second Beach Planet location, with the other at the foot of the Theo Baars Bridge at Villagio. Like that location, Beach Planet is one of the only souvenir shops to stock merchandise from clothing to keychains to hats that have the Perdido Key insignia.
‘There’s no souvenir/beach shops between my other location and Orange Beach, so if someone was staying at Eden Condominiums or even partying at the Flora-Bama, they’d have to go over the Alabama Point Bridge just to get a beach towel or chair,’ Dahan said. ‘So this location seemed perfect, and I think tourists and locals will be glad there’s a choice on Perdido Key.’
OK, that bikini or bathing suit from three years ago just isn’t going to cut it this year, so Beach Planet carries boys and girls swimwear by BSplit, Beach Native, Strand and other popular brand names. They carry men’s and women’s, too. Can’t be walking around in bare feet, so they carry a superb line of sandals by Cobian as well as other footwear.
Not everybody can afford authentic sunglasses by Versace or Armani, but Beach Planet carries versions of those trendy names with its line of Lucky 7 sunglasses. They also carry beach-inspired jewelry, sun dresses, beach blankets and beach chairs. Just about anything you need to waste away on Perdido’s stunning beaches.
When it comes to price, souvenir and beach shops can be notoriously high, but Dahan wanted his prices to reasonable. He doesn’t believe a day at the beach should break the bank.
‘Tourists are already spending a small fortune on accommodations and food. They shouldn’t have to spend a lot on beach items. In other words, having a good time on the beach with the entire family shouldn’t cost a lot.’”
